Digital programs? Small items? Crafts? Bakes? 

Very often, we feel like we need a full-on product range to be on an e-commerce platform like Lazada. But I found out that you don’t need to!

E-commerce has definitely re-shaped the way of modern shopping. As a pioneer in the digital commerce industry, Lazada has been making waves with over 130 million annual active consumers in the region, pushing 86% of online shoppers to make at least one purchase per month.

Here are some of my thoughts about setting up my own e-shop on Lazada:

 

How do I sell on Lazada? 

I found that it’s really easy to become a seller and set up your own shop on Lazada! It can be done in just one afternoon. 

I’ve listed out the steps here for you but really, it’s very intuitive and all you have to do is to follow the steps the platform takes you through.

  1. Head over to Sell on Lazada, sign up and submit the required documents (Personal identification/ Business registration and bank account details). Yes, you don’t need to set up a company to sell on Lazada. You can sell as an individual, using your NRIC.
  2. Your documents will then be verified by Lazada.
  3. Upload 1 or more product listing and make it visible on the platform for buyers to purchase.


Pro Tip #1: Lazada’s algorithm favors sellers with more than 11 listings. It’s because the more listings there are per store, the more time a customer would spend on your store! So list at least 11 SKUs immediately. You can also combine two or three products as a package and list it as a unique SKU. And that counts towards your 11 listings!

Pro Tip #2: Optimize your product by increasing your “content score” for each and every product that you’re listing. A content score of “Excellent” would optimise your placement when buyers search for the name or similar products. Meaning your listing would show up first or at least higher as compared than other listing with lower content score.

It’s a bit like SEO. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been on Lazada, as long as your “content score” is excellent or at least better than other sellers, your store/listing will be a force to be reckoned with.

To do this, you will need to: 

  • Upload images of your products with a clear background with no distracting images. You don’t need an external photo editing tool to do this. Lazada has a “Remove background” tool available for you! So just use that.
  • In the “Product Name” field, fill it in with this simple formula:
  • <Brand><Model>-<Type><Product Name><Usage Scenario/Other Features>,
  • Use as many characters as you can to optimize your searchability.
  • In the product description column, images work better than plain words! Insert lifestyle images, product images with models/ celebrity, testimonials etc. There is also a Lorikeet tool to design your images, with tons of templates available, to make your product page more attractive. Have fun unleashing your creativity here!
  • Videos that explain your product / answer questions do help too.
  • Under total package weight, remember to include the packaging (bubble wrap, carton box etc) along with the weight of your product.

Once your products are uploaded, your online shop is ready to go live! 

If the steps above sound very confusing to you, don’t worry! You will be appointed an incubation specialist. He/she will guide you along as you set up your store. So the best thing to do is to set an appointment with the incubation specialist and put aside a couple of hours to accomplish this. But hurry, you only have access to the specialist during your first 90 days with Lazada.

 

Lazada Sponsored Solutions 

Here are some extra perks that are very popular among sellers: the Lazada Sponsored Solution!

It’s basically paid marketing, which results in a higher boost of visibility of your products and store. 

If you sign up via this link and list 11 or more unique product listing in the first 50 days on the platform, you will be credited with free $50 Lazada Sponsored Solution (LSS) credits to promote your products! 

Pro Tip: Use your credits on the “New Product Launcher”, where your selected product will be shown on the “Selected For You” page. (Do take note that the content score for the selected product has to be “excellent” in order to optimise the cost per click!)

Lazada also provides very transparent ads reports and insights for the sellers, which are very helpful! 

Sellers may also opt for the Sponsored Discovery function, to get better visibility and more traffic. This appears as higher in search on the Lazada app; and for desktop users, your listing appears on the side bar, showing as a “Sponsored Product” on a product page of your competitors! 

 

Everyday Cashback

Lazada has also introduced a “Everyday Cashback” program where buyers can get up to 12% cash back while they shop on Lazada! To opt in, there’s a minimal charge of 2.5%+GST commission fee, capped at $3 per item.

It is a cash-out in dollar voucher and could be used on any products in Lazada. Sellers with higher ticket items would benefit the most as it’s capped at a $3 participation fee per item, but more cash backs for your customers. 

This feature would definitely encourage your customers to make the purchase. And sellers will also get more visibility on the Lazada App!

However, be aware of the fees from all your marketing campaigns. I understand that you want to boost your sales but please do your math beforehand. The fees may add up and eat into your cost and profits!

 

Free Shipping Max

One of the key factors affecting customers’ decision to checkout? It has to be FREE SHIPPING, right?

Another way to encourage checkouts is to provide free shipping to your customers. And with the Free Shipping Max, you will get +90% increase in traffic and a higher conversion rate (based on Lazada’s data).

Sellers who join the Free Shipping Max program will allow your customers to benefit from collectable Free Shipping vouchers!

Whereas sellers get to enjoy additional visibility on the homepage, search and Product Display Page  too, with only a 2%+GST participation fee on all chargeable item prices (capped at $1.49 per item).

Everyday Below $9.99

I’m most excited about this for our mombosses! You can be on Lazada to sell your lower priced items!

This one is definitely the best program for you if your products are below $9.99.

Firstly, only local products will be featured in the Everyday Below $9.99 page. Meaning less competition from overseas sellers! 

Secondly, you do not need to do anything. As long as your product is lower than $9.99, it will automatically be categorised and featured under the Everyday Below $9.99 page. 

Lastly, your buyer’s shipping fees will also be subsidised! 

Pro Tip: List your product under $9.99 and increase your overall sales with a Flexi Combo Voucher. Some of the examples would be a “buy more, save more” offer, or get “3 for the price of 2” offer.
