Flying With Children – 5 Tips to Keep Your Kids Happy
How’s everybody doing? The holiday is around the corner and it’s about time we have some family vacation. Travelling with kids can be quite challenging, especially during long haul flights where they can get bored and restless on the plane. As a parent, I cannot bear to see my kids looking miserable during their flight trip to a supposed fun time vacation.
Which is why I have rounded up 5 tips to keep your kids happy throughout your flight journey. Happy child = happy parent.
Create Supply Checklists for Your Kids
A checklist comes in handy during travels. Having a checklist in place ensures that you won’t forget anything important – especially your kid’s necessities.
To make it more efficient, you can have separate list for luggage and carry on. On the luggage list, you can store all general items for the holiday like clothes, toiletries and others. Meanwhile, in the carry-on list, you can list down the things that will keep your kids well-entertained throughout the flight journey like toys, colouring books, board games, cards, as well as necessities like medicine, extra wet wipes and diapers.
Check Out Airline Services
This is not a must but for me, it is not a total waste of time either. Sometimes airlines do provide certain facilities for children like medicine, wipes and such.
Airlines like Scoot and Lion Air do well on that department as well, but you will always need to double check. So, if you’re on the road to get Scoot deals online or if you plan to book Lion Air flights tickets online, make sure you enquire and see if there’s anything they might provide for the kids.
Be Prepare for Plan B – At All Cost
We can’t expect things to be the same with kids when they are more than a thousand feet in the air. Always expect the worst – motion sickness, claustrophobia, upset stomach – expect the worse and be prepared for it.
Look out for all the things that could go wrong in an aviation trip and prepare for the counter-measures. It’s okay to be over-prepared and be considered as one of those paranoid parents than to suffer endless death stare from other passengers.
Keep The Journey Fun and Creative
Kids have wild imaginations, and it’s not a bad idea for parents to get in the mood as well. We are kids once, right? Put yourself and your kids in a role-play such as them being the pilot – flying the plane through the sky or pretend you’re in a Sherlock Holmes story on your way to solving a crime. Role-playing is a very good bonding experience for parents and child. You get a glimpse into their world too.
Food Is The Cure For All Unhappiness In The World
Food makes the world go round, am I right? In this case, your kids will appreciate you so much more if you stock up on the snacks. If you haven’t packed any from home, these can easily be bought from the inflight crew when they do their rounds up and down the aisle with their food cart. Feel free to flag them down!
However, do watch out for the type of snacks your child is having. Too much sugar, they will be jumping on the chair and too much dairy might have you needing that Plan B earlier than anticipated. Keep things in moderate and as healthy as possible.
My final advice would be to enjoy the trip with your kids. I believe that if you can make it enjoyable, they will be happy little bunch at the end of the trip. Don’t be afraid of travelling with your kids. Trust me, it CAN be fun!
