How an Interactive AR App Changed the Way My Kids Brush Their Teeth

I would love going through my kid’s bedtime routine in the evening if it weren’t for one thing… tooth brushing. Can anyone else relate? Getting into jammies, no problem! Reading books, love it! Brushing teeth? Nightmare! It always feels like I have to nag my kids and chase them down to get it done.

And then I’m expected to get them to brush two more times in a day, forget about it! Not only is it difficult to get my kiddos to brush in the first place, then I have to make sure that they’re doing a thorough job and brushing for an adequate amount of time – this is no easy task!

Brush Monster – Our New Favorite Thing

How Brush Monster Engages Kids

Brush Monster takes your child step by step through the toothbrushing process using augmented reality. It is easy and fun for the kids to follow the virtual brush. There’s a cute voice directing them to brush their “upper teeth, back teeth, etc” and blinking stars when they get it right.

Not only does this teach your child the proper way to brush their teeth, it effectively lengthens the amount of time they brush. I know this because I have brushed my own teeth while Lauren brushed hers using Brush Monster and I was done before her. It actually guilt-tripped me into brushing longer too. Haha!

Each time your child brushes, he or she earns a star in the app and can take a selfie with a Brush Monster. I really like how Brush Monster has gamified brushing teeth for my kiddos, it’s just the incentive they needed and it took them from dreading brushing their teeth to begging to brush their teeth. Yup, even Will loves to brush his teeth now.

If you have multiple kids, like me, you can switch the brush head after each brushing session. The refill brush heads come in different colors for easy identification. The app allows us to register a profile for each kid. So one app and one electronic toothbrush for all my three children! Lauren and Georgia have actually gotten pretty competitive about their tooth brushing progress.

Oh, and if you’re wondering if my kids are wanting to brush their teeth all day long, Brush Monster actually makes that impossible (they’ve thought of everything!), you can only earn up to three stars per day per child in the app. So no worries about becoming “addicted” to Brush Monster.

How Brush Monster Works

Brush Monster uses 3D motion analysis, which is basically a fancy way to say that a built-in sensor in the toothbrush analyses your child’s brushing technique within 16 regions and reports that back to you. So, I guess that is pretty fancy!

The soft anti-bacterial brush has 5-step sonic vibration so your child can choose what level of vibration they want, from very mild to very strong and it’s super energy efficient too.

The brushing system has your children save cute characters from the Green Mold, my kids love helping Cheese, Cherry, and Soda every day! I think their favorite part is earning a new sticker and accumulating stars every day.

More Than Just Toothbrushing Skills

The coolest part (for me anyway) is that at the end of each brushing session you get a report that shows which part of the mouth your child missed so you can help them go back and brush those spots.

Since using Brush Monster, I’ve noticed that my kids are much more confident in their tooth brushing skills. They’ve really gained a sense of independence and taken charge of learning to brush their teeth.

Our dental report results speak for themselves, our children have improved how long they brush and they’ve started brushing better in their “problem areas.” I could not recommend Brush Monster to you more.
