One of my favourite things to do with the kids is grocery shopping. It’s a chore that has to be done, the kids get to go for a walk and it’s educational for them to learn that food doesn’t magically appear on their dinner table.

Which is why I’m very impressed with the newly renovated FairPrice Xtra hypermarket at Jurong Point. It has turned into a hypermarket, and with a hypermarket, you can expect better product offering. But the shopping experience doesn’t end at just being bigger and better. Hear me out or rather, read on. Here are some of the reasons why you should check out Fairprice Xtra at Jurong Point.

Healthy Eating Zone

FairPrice Xtra at Jurong Point has the biggest range of organic, free-from, natural and low Glycaemic Index (GI) and fresh produce I have ever seen in a supermarket.

If organic lifestyle is your jam, I’m sure you can find pretty much everything you need here – from baby products, skincare to Pasar Organic, FairPrice housebrand organic fresh produce that is super pocket-friendly.

Mummies, you would be glad to know that you can find a whole range of Bellamy’s organic baby formula and baby food here. I no longer have to ship them back all the way from Australia!

I also like that you can find food that is free-from in this zone. People who are allergic to certain food like nuts, gluten and cow dairy can easily identify food to suit their specific intolerance.

The Kitchen Zone

My favourite zone! You’d know why I’m excited about this zone when you get here. You will find rows and rows of fresh vegetables and fruits with a clever layout of different speciality offerings on the perimeters of this area.

You can find meats and sides from The Kitchen – the hot delicatessen. Over at Crea Cook Seafood, expect to see cooked seafood favourites, including crustaceans and molluscs. I spied some ready-to-eat cooked prawns which are farmed in seawater too. Fresh and healthy as a quick entree and totally yum as prawn cocktail.

You can also find a variety of sushi and sashimi, as well as various Japanese staples and condiments at Sushi; and a range of freshest quality meat from The Meat Specialist.

That’s not all. While you’re there, pick up loaves of bread freshly baked right there with the on-site oven at the Bakery, managed by renowned local brand – Swee Heng. Swiss-rolls, birthday cakes, tiramisu, chocolate mousse cake… they have it all.

Health and Beauty zone

Integrated with a Unity pharmacy store, you can find all your personal care, wellness, senior care and nutrition needs in the softly lit aisles. Shopping here feels therapeutic, I could take my time to discover a new silicone-free shampoo and the right Omega 3 oil.

I also like how similar brands like Physiogel, Cetaphil and QV (known for their moisturising products) are positioned together. It makes it easy for me to compare and choose the right product for my needs.

Should you need any consultations on medication, there is also a licensed pharmacist available in the vast health and beauty zone.

Total Home Solution Zone

Shopping at FairPrice Xtra at Jurong Point isn’t just another boring grocery run. At the Total Home Solution zone where you’ll find home cleaners, tools, household appliances and cookware, there are many products demonstrations. Talk about product discovery and learning. Who knew there are so many ways you could use that steamer!

For those looking for a bargain, don’t miss the Super Value aisle.

Parenting Zone

I love that FairPrice Xtra designed the new zones with families in mind. Lauren wasn’t feeling well when we visited last weekend. I was so glad I could leave her in a designated area where she was entertained with colouring sheets and kids activities while I shop in peace.

Located within steps from the main entrance, you can’t miss Kidsmart (read: kid smart or kids mart). Flanked by two big Doraemon, the inviting space has products stacked on shelves at kids’ heights, so they can have fun shopping for baby and kids care products on their own. Kidsmart also has a fence around it, so no worries about kids wandering away from the area.
