Laurenism Ep 1
I’m supposed to work on another blog post tonight but that had to wait because something just happened and I want to write it down before I forget. That’s the whole point of a blog, right?
I just put Lauren to sleep, for the second time tonight. The first time I left her room, I did a silent victory cheer because it was 8:45 PM and all the kids were knocked out. I was gathering my me-time supplies – laptop, phone, snacks and about to put my feet up to read and write all night (Nick is overseas), when I heard the door to Lauren’s room creaked open.
There, standing in the dark was my daughter, her eyes struggling to adjust to the light. She asked, “What’s happening?”
“Oh! You’re still awake?”
I swear I kissed her gently on the forehead before I left and she was asleep!
“I was like, where’s mummy?”. Her words were loud, tinged so slightly with annoyance.
Without saying another word, we both made our ways back into her bed.
Lying in the dark, I was proud, smiling to myself that my 4-years-old sounded far beyond her years. Like a teenager. Actually, she sounded just like me. I imagine I would have said the same thing to Nick if I find him missing in the middle of the night. I love that passive-aggressiveness of that two sentences she said that made me go back into bed with her, no questions asked. I’m not sure if she did it on purpose, I doubt it, but I absolutely abhor it when she whines and sulks. Very often, she would get an angry/annoyed reaction from me when she doesn’t get her way and cries. I cannot stand neediness.
This passive-aggressiveness is new. She wasn’t whiny. She was strong. She was in charge. It wasn’t an accusation nor a tantrummy demand for me to lie down with her while she sleeps. She merely (innocently) asked where I was, it was almost a concern for me. How can I say no to that?
Brilliantly played, my girl. Just brilliant.
PS: The kids are at a stage where they say and do the most hilarious things and I want to document it down, starting with Laurenism for Lauren. However, Georgiaism doesn’t sound right and Willism sounds downright wrong. Any suggestion on how I should name the blog series for Georgia and Will?

The good ol’ “They grow up so fast”!!
It’s a great idea to document what kids say and do while growing up. They simply amaze us!
I know right? Kids amaze and often make me laugh so hard with their honesty and simple way of seeing the world.
I used to write it down in their scrapbook and at time record as well. I think need to start it again all over now.
What about “GeorgiaSpeak” and “Willsequitur”?
Hi Deb, thanks for the suggestions! I like GeorgiaSpeak because she does say the funniest things. I had to google sequitur and still don’t get what it means. Haha!
All I can think of is “Georgia Says” and “Will I Am” hahahah

Awww.. precious moments. They will appreciate reading through them when they are grown. Sorry, couldn’t come up with names for William and Georgia.
This made me laugh, haha! I think kids these days often surprise us with the things they say? On that note though, I think I need to grab a snack too. :p
