Egg-cellent Easter at Westgate

ADVERTORIAL, LIFESTYLE | 5 comments

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen Stories of Lauren and Georgia having a whale of fun at Westgate last weekend. If you haven’t, well, you know I would recount it on the blog. I love you too much to not share about the best place to soak in the Easter spirit this April!

Wait, where was I? Oh yes, Westgate – the mall with the largest free-of-charge rooftop playground in Singapore is now even more awesome with a line-up of fun activities to keep you and your little ones egg-tertained. Too much? No more. Promise.

Giant Easter Egg Display

8 – 23 Apr | L1 Courtyard

You can’t miss it. You’ll find beautifully hand-painted giant Easter Eggs on display upon reaching Westgate Courtyard on Level 1. They were still painting-in-progress last Saturday when we were there, but I’m pretty sure they are done now and I can’t wait to see how they turn out.

Eggs Painting Workshop

8, 9, 14, 15 & 16 Apr, 12 – 8pm | L1 Courtyard

Monkey see, monkey do. Now that the kids are inspired, why not let them unleash their creativities at painting their very own Easter Egg! All you need is a minimum spend of $60 in a same-day receipt to redeem entry to the eggs painting workshop.

Lauren and Georgia both received a 15cm Easter egg each to paint. Everything was provided – free-flow of colourful paint, brushes, rinse cups, tissues, you name it.

The best part of all, no cleaning up was required on my part. The eggs were nicely wrapped up to be brought home when it’s done.

Do note that it’s limited to 800 redemptions. Redemption can be made at L1 Courtyard event space and other T&C may apply.

Cookie Decorating Workshop

8, 9, 14, 15 & 16 Apr, 12 – 8pm | L1 Courtyard

The girls wanted to do more, so we moved on to the Easter Cookies Decorating Workshop booth located within the same courtyard. There are dedicated instructors showing them what to do with the colourful icing pipes. I like to think I’m starting them young on some piping techniques but really, it was more like squeeze, smear and sprinkle with lots of chocolate chips for this age.

Nice, huh? Nope, not my kids’.

It’s the effort that matters and here they are, proudly showing off their decorated cookies, which you can’t see clearly in the photo. My bad!

The Easter Cookies Decorating Workshop is organised by Westgate Kids Club. It costs $5 per person to take part but if you’re a member of the kids club, it’s only $3.

Westgate Kids Club is run by Genius R Us and they have a whole list of Easter-themed baking workshops happening this month at the outlet.

Teddy Bears Picnic

8, 9, 14, 15 & 16 Apr, 12 – 8pm | L1 Courtyard

While it isn’t really a picnic, it’s fun enough for Lauren and Georgia to rehash the whole experience to Nick again and again when we got home.

This lovely Build-A-Bear and handicraft session is priced at $19 per person. You start with picking your choice of a teddy and go through a magical ritual of prepping the bear’s heart and placing it inside the bear to make it “comes alive”. The bear is now yours and it will always love you.

Now that you’re the rightful owner of a bear, you get to name it officially with a birth certificate. Lauren’s bear is called Butterfly and Georgia’s is Blue. I like how original my kids are.

After which, the kids got to make bunny ears and cut out Easter eggs to make a garland. The whole process took about 20 to 30 minutes and since they were occupied the whole time, I reckon this would be a good time to sneak away and get a quick grocery shopping done.

Space is limited for this workshop, so check in store or call 6266 2040 to make a booking in advance!

Be rewarded by doing good deeds

14, 15 & 16 Apr, 12 – 8pm | L1 Courtyard

There can’t be a better time to get a haircut. This Easter long weekend, you can get a FREE haircut from Kcuts when you donate to the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Carousel

Nothing screams wonderland quite like a carousel, so a carousel ride is a must.

I mean where else can you get a ride off a seahorse and a pegasus?

Mind Games

Mind Games is not part of the Egg-cellent festivities happening at Westgate Courtyard but I thought I’d mention it here in the same post anyway. Located at Level 4, Mind Games has a wide range of board games catered to families and young children.

I find Mind Games a refreshing choice of place to bring children. It’s not the usual playground for active play nor it is an enrichment class. It is simply a place for families to spend unhurried, enjoyable time together. As an added bonus, board games are rich in learning opportunities. Just by virtue of playing them, board games can teach important social skills, such as communicating verbally, taking turns and sharing. It also fosters the ability to focus and lengthens a child’s attention span by encouraging the completion of a game.

But with so many games, how does one choose? Worry not. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. She is able to recommend games suitable for your child’s age and she’s there to teach you how to play each game.

My ever predictable daughter went for a game with Elsa and Anna on the cover.

If your child is old enough, you’re welcome to deposit them here and let them have hours of fun exploring on their own, while you go shopping. I know I’ve suggested that TWICE in this post. Am I that obvious?

However, parents are encouraged to join in and bond with the children over competitive board games. That Frozen Hands Down game which requires you to spot the same character quickly was surprisingly very fun.

Oh.. and that classes fishing game. We had one at home and Lauren could play it since she was 8 months old. She loved it then and still loving it now.

The hourly rate at Mind Games is $5 per person but If you’re there on Monday to Thursday, it’s $7.80  ($11.80 for weekends) for two hours, including a drink or snack of your choice.

We had lots of fun at Westgate last weekend. Most of the Egg-cellent Easter activities ends this Easter Sunday, so don’t forget to drop by this weekend!
