A Massive Discovery
You probably know by now that one of my favourite things to do is grocery shopping. I’ve always envied friends who raved about shopping at Costco in their country. I’ve been to one in Sydney and I wished there’s one in Singapore.
My wish came true! And I didn’t even know it.
No, Costco isn’t coming to town but there’s Warehouse Club! Why didn’t anyone told me about it? You didn’t know about Warehouse Club either? Well then, you might wanna hang around and see this for yourself.
Warehouse Club, the 7th and latest retail format of NTUC FairPrice Cooperative Ltd has been around for 2 years! Located on level 2 and 3 in Fairprice Hub building, which is right next to Joo Koon MRT station and bus interchange, Warehouse Club offers a whole new shopping experience with its massive store layout, big savings and exclusive brands and products.
An invitation came for us to visit Warehouse Club and off we went one fine afternoon, Lauren and I. Upon entry, I was blown away by the amount of products available! Besides food items, I found maternity clothes, wipes, toys, pajamas, snacks, medication and bathroom supplies.
You know how kids are like when they are confronted with a BIG space? They can’t help themselves but run amok. Okay, maybe it’s just my kids but I like that they can run up and down the aisle and I wouldn’t have to worry about them bumping things off the shelves.
Exclusive brands and products
Warehouse Club is the sole retailer for Kirkland Signature US, Costco’s house brand. Bet you didn’t know you can get these products right here in Singapore.
I think Lauren went a lil craaaazy here when she saw that big tub of jelly beans.
From one end of the health scale to the other, you get this Kirkland Signature Organic Ricemilk. Perfect for those who are lactose-intolerant. I like that it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to buy organic at the Warehouse Club.
This range of eco-friendly cleaning products from Frosch Germany is made entirely with natural ingredients. I think that’s wonderful for families with young children and pets because it has no harsh chemicals smell, so no breathing in hurtful chemicals.
We also found special quality imports such as Carrefour France, Tesco UK and The Cheesecake Factory US.
The Kirkland Signature Organic Apple Sauce is perfect for weaning babies. It is not only certified organic but also certified gluten-free, kosher, non-GMO Project Verified and BPA free. It’s $5.75 for four or $31.95 for a bulk pack of twenty-four, which works out to be $1.33 per pouch – so cheap! I’m making mental notes to come back for these when WIll is ready for solids.
Another product which I didn’t get because Nick was away and I didn’t trust my own willpower to not finish it on my own is the jumbo pack of Ruffles potato chips in Spicy Crab and Grilled Chicken flavours. It’s going for $15.90 for two 450g packs. It is definitely going on my next shopping list.
One of the gotta try products, this Farm Fresh yogurt drink is my kids’ favourite. It was finished by the very next day.
Forgotten to buy your colleague a souvenir from your recent Japan trip? You can get these delectables at around 15 bucks. They are none the wiser, unless of course, they’ve been to Warehouse Club. Or read this post. I think I’ve just ruined a brilliant idea for everyone here.
Great for parents and kids
Now parents, I know you’ll be excited about this…..
Yes, life seems depressing when we get excited about diapers but hey, savings on diapers is huge and a cause for celebration. At least in my household.
Anyway, we weren’t at Warehouse Club for that long, just a little over two hours. *grin* Lauren was getting tired, so I bribed her with this My Little Pony plate to keep her energy level up. Can I hear a whoop whoop for my parenting skill?
What about hungry kids, you ask? You can get hot snack and dinner sorted at the ready-to-eat section. I heard the soups are good.
And if food isn’t enough to keep the kids happy, I guarantee they’ll like this section of Warehouse Club.
Big Value, Big Celebration
At Warehouse Club, you can expect to find everything in bulk packs, value packs and multi-packs at great prices. This is THE place to go to stock up for your next party. These Goldfish baked crackers, for example, are excellent for filling children goodie bags.
You probably won’t run out of potato chips for your guests. These are $15.90 for 2 packs of 900g.
You can also find regular products from Fairprice. But the products here are priced up to 10% cheaper. And if you buy bulk, you can save even more money.
I absolutely love the massive chilled and frozen food section. I found many seafood and meat cuts that aren’t available at my local supermarket.
Now these are the stuff that got my heart racing. I can’t wait to turn the ribs into juicy, honey-roasted bbq ribs. Also, the bulk packs of scallop and abalone are so cheap! I have no idea what to do with them so hit me up with your good recipes, I’m open to experiment.
$26.80 for 900g of Norwegian smoked salmon, anyone?
How about impressing your guest with a Korean-inspired meal? This Ginseng Chicken Soup Mix is $20 for 40 sachets, which means 50 cents each. Now tell me, where to find?
I’m planning a Nasi Lemak night with the Sambal Paste 🙂
This is also where you can get possibly the cheapest Christmas tree in Singapore. And do some gift shopping while you’re at it.
Last but not least, it is not festive without a little bit of booze. Last time I spied, there was quite a good selection of wine available.
Aaaaand…. here are the items I bought. I just had to get that 1.3kg tub of Sunmaid chocolate covered raisins. Both of my favourite food rolled into one! Only $11.90! I’m so ashamed to admit this but it’s all gone now, in less than one week. So much for my healthy eating effort.
Anyway, everything else is fairly healthy, right? Products not seen in the cart are the fore-mentioned Kettle chips, abalone and ribs, cod fillets ($7.90 for 400g) and smile gummi ($1.95). All these and above cost me a grand total of $165.95.
Similar to Costco, Warehouse Club is a membership only, bulk shopping erm… warehouse. I really can’t find another word for it, so consider it aptly named. If you are an NTUC affiliated Union member or Fairprice members, the membership is $35 for 2 years. Otherwise, it is $50 for 2 years. You can sign up for membership at the customer service counter, located right at the entrance. Signing up takes less than 10 minutes and you can start shopping immediately.
