An Ode To Merries Diapers
A new baby and I’m back to the grind. The endless feeding and diaper change grind. With feeding, it’s a no-brainer, breast is best. But when it comes to diapers, how do we know what’s best for our little ones?
For me, it’s been trial and error. In my 4+ years of diapering experience, I’ve tried them all. From diaper blowout to diaper falling off mid-shopping (looking at you, Nick), we’ve been there. So for baby Will, lucky lucky boy, mummy is no longer experimenting, we use Merries Tape diapers.
Why Merries? Here’s why.
Exceptional breathability
Imagine wearing a damp, moist underpants for an extended amount of time. Heaps uncomfortable.
So using a ‘breathable’ diaper that can expel moisture and stuffiness from the insides of the diaper is oh-so-important not only for baby Will’s comfort but also to prevent diaper rash. We’ve used Merries before, and now with their new triple layer air-through system which increases breathability by 40%* for long lasting dryness, I’m more than happy to stick with Merries diapers.
I’m a nerd when it comes to finding out the best thing for my kids. If you’re interested to know how the new triple air-through system works, read this excerpt below. If you’re nodding off already, skip right through!
1st layer: Light airy mesh material that is gentle on the skin. The mesh reduces the skin contact area by half, expelling moisture and stuffiness through the gaps between the diaper and skin.
2nd layer: Breathable air-through absorbent layer. Moisture passes through this absorbent layer in the process of absorbing pee.
3rd layer: All round breathable sheet. The entire sheet is breathable, releasing the moisture from pee and sweat.
Only half the moisture remains on the skin, even when the diaper is worn for a long time, resulting in longer-lasting dryness!
Even in Japan, 97% of mothers find the triple-layer air-through design means a drier bottom for their babies (Kao survey, September 2015)

Upping my nerdy game, I did a little experiment too.
I poured hot water into the diaper. I then turned the diaper around and put a glass cup on the back of the diaper. You can see the moisture collected inside the glass. This shows that heat and moisture do escape from the diaper, thus making inside diaper cooler and more comfy for our babies.
Superb absorbency
The first few times I used Merries Tape diapers on Will, I was wondering how come he pooped less. Turned out the ‘suaku’ me had not realised that the wavy and recessed surface of the soft Merries diaper sheet could trap and hold poo. How clever! Simply by giving the poo literally some space, the poo is prevented from dispersing and getting all over baby’s bum and thigh.
So my baby didn’t defecate less, it’s just that the diapers are super absorbent. It immediately draws in and locks away pee and soft poo, leaving the diaper surface drier, which means I can gleefully say, “Nope, he still doesn’t need to get changed”, which means I now have much more time saved from not having to constantly change diapers, which means baby Will can sleep longer, which means I can sleep longer, which means Merries diapers literally saved my sanity. Possibly one of the longest sentences I’ve written but you can’t stop the excitement of a revelation. Ok, full stop.
Not quite. Because I’m a thorough person and there is plenty more awesomeness to this diaper to share. Younger me may have whacked me on the head by now. But younger me may never understand the importance of finding a good diaper for our babies.
Ultra softness
Goes without saying, the cushion HAS to be soft to be comfortable too! Merries Tape diaper’s inner wavy and soft surface reduces skin contact. So baby Will’s cute and delicate butt doesn’t stick to the diaper. May diaper rash never see the light of day in Will-land!
Colour-changing wetness indicators
Merries Tape diaper has a wetness indicator. When the strips in the middle change colour from yellow to dark blue, I’ll know it is time to change the diaper. No more pressing, poking and opening/closing diaper around here.
There’s really nothing to fault about the improved Merries Tape diapers. The increased breathability, dryness and comfort allow Will to sleep longer and wake up a happy baby boy!
Merries is confidently giving out samples so you can try for yourself how great their diapers are. Thank me later!
