Facelift For The Kids Room
You know those room makeovers that look completely unrecognisable after the transformation has been revealed? Well, this is not one of those makeovers. This is just a non-surgical facelift. One that’s easily done with new paint on the walls and a few new pieces of furniture.
So here we go with the before …
It’s terrible. It was our home office before we had babies and then it somehow morphed into helper + Georgia’s room + store room. No design thoughts were ever given to spruce up this room but still, keep your expectation low for the after…
Better? Slightly?
Well, it pleases my kids. Lauren is happy to fiiiinally move out from our room and into this room with Georgia.
The wall is now coated in Urban Grey, Nippon Paint #1113. And no, I didn’t get on the ladder and painted in myself, in case you were wondering.
I’m so thankful for Nippon Professional Painting Service team to come in and did everything for me. Yes, everything!
They shifted my furniture and covered those and the floor with plastic paper;
They taped every corner (including the light switches, cornices, door stoppers and wrapping up the air-condition unit);
They applied a sealant to cover up cracks and water marks + a base coat;
And finally, meticulously applied 2 coats of paints on every wall.
Not only that, they totally cleaned up and moved back all the furniture to its original positions. What impressed me was the meticulousness of the painters. They carefully wiped off all little speckles of paint off everything, including the door knobs.
They even covered up the water patches on the kids ensuite ceiling.
Have I mentioned I’m totally not a detail person? The supervisor came in towards the end of the day and asked me to inspect the walls and mark parts which I think needs touching-up. I couldn’t find any. But he went ahead and got the painters to clean up the slightest of imperfection. Totally impressed with the service of professionalism!
They were very fast too. All it took was just ONE working day. By the time Nick returned from work, both the kids and living room are coated with fresh paints. And when I said fresh, I really mean it.
My in-laws were concerned with the paint smell and all. They said it may harm the young children and the baby in my belly. It’s true that those traditional oil-based paints give off a bad odour and when you’re exposed to the fumes for an extended period of time, it gives you headaches.
Nippon Paint team quickly reassured me that they’ll be using the Odourless Medifresh paint which had near-zero VOC, which means it is not only safe, it can improve indoor air quality (and our health too). It is also anti-bacterial and anti-mould. Is there anything a paint can’t do these days?
Meanwhile, my living room gets a new white (Sail White #1199 to be precise) and a feature wall. When the Nippon Paint team suggested a feature wall, we weren’t quite sure. We have mostly dark furniture and I was happy with white walls.
Anyway, we listened to their professional suggestion and pick Stylish Grey #1177 for the television wall. I love it now! For the record, the painters helped us removed the television for painting and hung it back up when it’s completed.
Meanwhile, the kids’ room is looking brighter with Urban Grey. I think this wall calls for an oversized painting / photograph, don’t you think?
Pin away! 🙂
