Rasa Sayang Songbook Review + Giveaway
I can’t get this song out of my head!
Lauren has been playing it over and over and over again, along with many other Malay folk songs.
How come we have such songs in our household I hear you ask?
You see, I received one of the prettiest books package last week and the girl basically hijacked it from me as soon as she saw it. I wasn’t even going to blog about this. Because really, what can I say about a musical book? But since Lauren loved it so much, I figure maybe you or your child may like it too.
Rasa Sayang from Baba Baa
Rasa Sayang Sing and Record Songbook is the first book of its kind – featuring 7 familiar Malay folk songs, with beautiful illustrations and listen-and-record functions.
It is the brainchild of Singaporean mumpreneur Lee Juin who was a lawyer and now mum to a boy.
She remembers fondly the mesmerising folk songs that she listened to when she was little. After her son was born, she searched for the songs for him, but couldn’t find any culturally relevant yet high-quality materials suitable for children.
So she set out to create her own. She created Baba Baa as the umbrella company for all the work she was doing. It took her a year and a half year to produce this book.
Selecting the songs she wanted to include and finding an illustrator were the easy parts. The hard part has been the last year of back and forth with product prototypes, looking for the best available recording quality, handling manufacturing issues and finding distribution channels to make her dream product comes true.
Talk about true entrepreneurship. When you have a dream, you make it happen no matter what. I’m so proud of Lee Juin and what she has accomplished. Look at the beautiful box it came in. I think it makes a great gift.
As soon as Georgia woke up from her nap, Lauren can’t wait to show the sister her new book. I now have 2 little girls dancing and singing to Malay folk songs in my house.
Rasa Sayang is now available in all major bookstores in Singapore. For more information, here’s a link to Baba Baa website and Facebook page.

Nice my baby is one year old this will help her learn some song
I would love to have the book to pass on childhood songs from yesteryear to my girl 🙂
I wanna win the books for my boys to expose them to the Malay folk songs and the good old memories from my yesteryear 🙂
As like all the mothers here, I grew up knowing and loving these classic malay children songs; and now I would love my son to know part of his heritage.
I’ve been to star vista twice but never ventured to Rochester Mall. After reading your blog post, I’ll try those recommendations. Thanks for sharing!
Ah how nostalgic! This definitely reminds me of my childhood, and it’s simply wonderful to share this memory with my children. As kids ourselves, we simply repeat the songs without knowing much of the contents. So I especially like that the book comes with English translated meanings, for myself to re-learn and for my kids to understand the national language of Singapore.
Would be awesome to win this and keep this together with the rest of the gift ive bought for the toddler when the new baby comes along! 😛
Hi! Would love to receive a copy of the book and introduce the Malay folk songs to my toddler. She loves to sing!
Singapore being a multi-racial society is integral to the success of the little red dot! That is why books such as Rasa Sayang are a credit to helping expose our children to friends from other races and educating them at the same time! The book set is so nice that I think I will be the first one to go through them before introducing them to the kids. Thanks for the nice giveaway and thanks for promoting a healthy reading habit as well as racial harmony!
