Prenatal Massage and Facial at Beauty Mums and Babies Review
You are probably tired of hearing me complaining about how physically tough this pregnancy is. Heck, I’m tired of feeling tired and aching all over. But I like to keep my blog positive and I believe there’s always something good at the end of the day.
So this post is about something good which happened to me because of the aches.
Well technically, a baby would come out at the end of all this. But in the meantime, the aches are my perfect excuse for a pampering prenatal massage and facial treatment at Beauty Mums & Babies.
I’ve been to Beauty Mums & Babies before for a postnatal care talk. However, I juuust can’t remember where it is as I walked along the 14th-floor corridor at Paragon Orchard. I walked past them and the receptionist called out to me.
My initial thought was, “Wow, they can still remember me!”. Then I realised my big tummy was probably THE dead giveaway that I was their next client in the appointment book.
After all, Beauty Mum & Babies is a one stop wellness service centre catered especially for pre and postnatal mothers and babies.
Prenatal Massage
After the initial compulsory health/medical/waiver form filling and a cup of ginger tea, I was ushered into the treatment room.
I was left alone to strip down to a disposable underwear. I wasn’t sure how I should lay down, since laying on my tummy is now impossible. I sat up waiting for the massage therapist. Truth be told, I was feeling a little vulnerable that a stranger is about to see my heavily pregnant body, which is quite unusual, given that I’m used to stripping down and changing in a room full of people at the backstage of fashion shows.
Ahhh…. hormones hormones…
The massage therapist entered the room, introduced herself and I quickly found myself relaxing. She guided me to lay down sideway on my left, with a leg over the side pillow and covered my entire body with towels.
*Breath of relieve* That little bit of dignity left in my body saved.
We chatted a little about my pregnancy and a feet wipe with warm towels marked the start of the session. She then opened up the towel on my back to massage it. So only the part that was being massaged was exposed. I though this could be a useful info for all fellow shy ladies.
She explained that Beauty Mums & Babies use a proprietary pre-natal massage oil which is hydrophilic in nature. This makes it highly absorbent into the skin when used in massage. This creates a moisturising effect when absorbed into the dermal layer without leaving a greasy texture. The oil also helps to reduce stretch marks and softens the skin.
We talked very little during the rest of the session as she worked her way through my neck, shoulder, hands and legs. I appreciate that because the last thing I want at my ‘me-time’ is making small talk. I closed my eyes and I fell asleep after switching side to lay on my right for the second half of the massage.
The session concluded with a bit of feet massage, which surprised me because I thought feet massage during pregnancy is a no-no. Knowing that Beauty Mums & Babies are specialised in dealing with pre and post natal women, I feel completely comfortable in putting myself in their good hands.
Prenatal massage is known to reduce stress hormones, relieve physical and mental fatigue, enhance muscle and joint function, improve body circulation and reduce back and ligament pain.
So did I sleep better that night? Did I immediately feel the difference?
Actually no. I still have a hard time sleeping. But I thoroughly enjoyed my massage and I’m already thinking of returning next month to get my lower back kneaded again!
Prenatal massage at Beauty Mums & Babies can be done between the 20th and 37th weeks of pregnancy. Beyond the 37th week, mummies have to get clearance from their ob-gyn to continue their massage treatments. I was told some mummies go in even after 40 weeks of pregnancy because their ob-gyns believe massage can help relaxes the body to be ready for birth.
Price: $150 for 60 minutes/session or $590 for 5 sessions.
Bliss Facial Treatment
After my prenatal massage, I had an hour of Beauty Mums & Babies’ Bliss Facial Treatment. Contrary to popular belief, you can have facial treatment during pregnancy. However, avoid the use of lasers and machine-based treatments.
Another beautician who specialises in facial treatment for pregnant ladies attended to me. She then gently removed my eye makeup. Like reaaaaally gentle.. the gentlest ever! I can tell she was removing the waterproof mascara off my eyelashes one-by-one. I felt like telling her that I usually use a cleansing oil for my entire face and that’s that!
Anyway, what comes next were makeup remover for the entire face, cleansing milk, sea salt scrub and an exfoliating mask for 10 to 15 minutes. Meanwhile, I had an awesome head massage. I love it when they work on other parts of your body when you have your mask on, instead of leaving you alone.
It was time for extraction after the exfoliating mask. Apparently, there wasn’t much to extract because I have dry T-zone. The beautician commented that I have very firm skin and that my skin has lots of collagen! Now that’s something I don’t hear every day! Maybe the super collagen in the Mediplus-Gel that I’m using for review purpose works after all!
Next, she meticulously trimmed my eye brow.. yeah, I have kinda let myself go and my brow was getting bushy and we finally got to my favourite part of any facial treatments – the face, neck, décolleté, shoulder and upper arm massage with oil.
A deep hydration mask for 20 minutes, toner and moisturiser and we came to the end of my facial treatment. My skin felt great afterwards but upon a closer look, there were still traces of mascara under my eyes.
Mascara residue aside, the overall service was very good, very polite and not sales-pushy at all. The beautician carefully explained step by step what she was going to do and how it can help my skin.
Price: $119 for 60 minutes but my session took about 75 minutes.
