I feel like I haven’t done an update post in a while. So I guess I’ll write one now since September was pretty full on in Michelleland.
First off, I went away without both kids for the first time earlier in the month. I went to Cameron Highland, Malaysia for my friend, Jackie’s hens trip. Her husband-to-be was there too, so it didn’t really count as a hens trip. But since Nick has had many bucks trips and I don’t, I feel like I need one too, so I’m branding this a hens trip! (It was really a pre-wedding photo shoot for the couple.)
There was probably around 15 (I lost count!) girls or rather, women who went together. So you can imagine how hectic and loud and chatty the whole thing was. I missed Lauren and Georgia the whole time but I must say, I was kinda glad I didn’t bring them along. For 3 days 2 nights, I wasn’t a mom and I, for the first time in a very very long time, had to only think and care for myself. (Think long shower, with just as long after-shower beauty routine and chewing my food properly while being fully engaged in a dinner conversation). Oh! The little things we took for granted before we had kids.
I haven’t been to Cameron Highlands since I was 10. But really, things hadn’t changed that much. The town is exactly the same as how I remember it. And yes, one of the must-eat is still steamboat. And the tastiest ingredient was the vegetables! Fresh from farm to table, literally.
I don’t usually fancy taking selfies. But when you are in the company of people who do it every single chance they get, you’d feel compelled to participate. Sad but I blame midlife peer pressure.
Behind the scene. This was a close up shot of our faces which we’re supposed to be chatting happily and smiling. But in reality, we were sitting on a muddy stair way with creepy crawlies around us. But I’m happy to be in the photoshoot with my best friends for 18 years. They were bridesmaid at my wedding, so it’s time I return the favour.
Nick and I changed it up a bit when it comes to date night for this month. We usually take turns organising a date once a month. This month, I cheated by inviting him along to a media event. Killing two birds with one stone and he agreed!
So we spent our date day (instead of night) baking away at Masterclass with Rachel Allen – a celebrity chef who was in Singapore on a promotional tour for her cookbook and new series on BBC, Rachel Allen: All Things Sweet.
Did I mentioned we were totally blessed in September too? I joined
A Happy Mum‘s Hi-5 concert tickets giveaway sometime in July and had totally forgotten at it, until Summer emailed me with the awesome news. So on 13th September, I took both girls to their very first concert!
Note to my girls: Mummy didn’t get to go to any concert until she was 14. You girls are so lucky. In case you are wondering, it was Jackie Cheung’s. Old school canto-pop.
Well, it hasn’t been all play and no work in September. I have COMPLETED the first draft of my book. All 50k words of it. Now the game plan is to ignore it for a week (or longer), and print it out and read it like it’s written by someone else. I’m in the ignore stage at the moment and am totally feeling the jitters now. What if I hate it? Prolific beats perfect, they say. Hell……. no, I won’t publish something I’m not proud of. So don’t hold your breath yet, the book is faaaaaaar from being ready to publish.

It's been years since I went Cameron Highlands! Missing the cool weather there. I love the mommy and daughter dressing. Too bad my girl don't like skirt or dress
So happening! I have not travelled with my girl friends for many years!
I have mid-life peer pressure too! Don't think we'll ever grow out of it. 😛
Such a fun girls trip, and I hear you on having the luxury of not having to care for anyone else but yourself. I still don't have the guts to leave Noah with my husband for more than half a day, so I think it will be ages before I go on a trip with just my friends!
Wish I could join your contest, but there are so few places with matching clothes for mothers and sons! 🙁
It's so nice to be able to go on a trip without the kids. Hope you did not miss your girls too much.
