Okay, this post is going to be a little long winded. I’m in a self reflective mode lately and I figure typing it out may actually help solidify some of my thoughts. Today I’m talking about life purpose.
Have you asked yourself what were you put on earth to do?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always asked myself that question. Turns out the right question is ‘What is my life purpose?’. I seriously didn’t know until recently.
You see, life has been kind to me. How I got here today, in my own opinion (coz my friends and family may tell you otherwise) is purely by chance.
I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world, earn a decent income to support myself through school and independent since a young age. All these happened fairly by coincidence. Never once have I made deliberate intention to make something work out of my own wants.
I became a model at 16 because I was talent scouted. Then I went on to model around Asia because my agency arranged that for me. I had initially wanted to quit modeling and go to London to start a new life. But life has better plan for me, and whilst on holidays in Sydney, I met my future husband, Nick.
Ok, maybe the gutsy move to a foreign country was all me but I didn’t do it with a clear purpose in mind either. I was just giving it a go or in Nick’s words, I was swept off my feet.
Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that at my life’s each pivotal point, things happened because there are external factors that pushed me along. I never really felt it was all me, if you know what I mean.
Until now.
I finally feel this is where I belong. As a mom. I feel like being a mom is the role I was meant to play in this life. A mom to my children and be the best I can be so they can become the best version of themselves.
If you tell me in my younger years that my most important role in life is being mom, I would have laughed in your face. All my life, my mom had thought me to be an independent woman, make something out for myself, and not rely on my husband. So that was what I was working towards all my life. Be an independent career woman.
But now in retrospect, I’m always dreamt having my own daughters to pass on those wisdom too.
Maybe it is an age thing. I now know and accept myself more than ever.
So how did I come to this conclusion?
You may have noticed a few posts on my Facebook and Instagram account when I talked about a 40 weeks program called Key Person of Influence that I’m part of.
One of the most important exercise we must do in the program is to find our WHY or life purpose.
It wasn’t easy. I had to reflect back on life so far and figure out what I have done that made me happy, frustrated, my natural skills, strengths and weaknesses. I also had to voice record a sentence which start with “I get up every morning because…” 30 times to figure out my WHY.
If you’d like you find out your WHY, I recommend you give the voice recording exercise a try. I ended up saying things I never thought was in my mind. And all those thoughts led me back to being a mom.
So is being a mom my WHY?
Yes, being a mom is a mean to my why. My WHY is to be an inspiration to my daughters. I want them to be confident, fulfilled and continue to inspire the next generation.
My other ‘mean’ is that I want to help more women be confident and fulfilled and be an inspiration to their children.
Thus, I’m officially relaunching my maternity concierge business to give hands on help to first time moms. I hope to provide first hand knowledge and advice, bring together expert partners/services and high quality products to help as many woman as I can. If you like to find out more about The Chill Mom Maternity Service, go here.
I am looking for people to join my team as employees, venture partners, sponsors and potential clients. If you like to get involved, please let me know. And if you know any moms-to-be who are struggling to balance life/work/pregnancy, let them know they don’t have to do it alone. I can be reached at mich@thechillmom.com
What it is all about is making pregnancy and motherhood a little less scary. All women have natural motherly instinct that make them a good mom. They just need a little guidance to see it within themselves.
Again, thanks for reading.
PS: Tell me, do you know what your WHY is? I would love to hear it.
Definitely agree that it will be so ideal to pass on the wisdom that one has accumulated over the years to his/her own children, so that they too can grow up to become inspirations to others! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wishing you the best for your business!
