Although we’ve been to Universal Studios Singapore when Lauren was just a baby, I always thought it is something that we will only revisit when Lauren turns 5 or older, because 1. My husband is not a fan of rides and 2. My toddler is equally as scaredy-cat and too short for most rides.
So when we were invited to check out the Easter Eggtravaganza at Universal Studios Singapore last weekend, I was apprehensive. Is USS suitable for a family with young children? We decided to give it a go anyway because Easter is a big thing back home in Australia, so it would be nice to get the girls into the spirit of easter bunnies, eggs and chocolates!
Here are what kept a family with a toddler AND a baby occupied from 10am to 4pm:
We started off with taking the compulsory photo with the Universal Studios globe, of course! After many failed attempts (dodging photo bombers and waiting for the the ‘Universal’ word to rotate into the right position), the bottom photo is the best photo we managed. Tip: Take it at the end of your trip instead of when you arrive in the morning. There’s usually less people.
Things got off to a better start when Lauren was given an Easter egg upon entry into the theme park, which she was really egg-cited about. Advance apology to the many ‘eggs’ puns in the post – can’t help it.
Behind every excited kid, there is an even more mom…… and dad!!
From now through to 5 April 2015, Universal Studios Singapore is decked out with flowers, bright spring colours and lots and lots of Easter eggs. There is also an Easter-exclusive stage show, The Royal Lunch at Eggingham Gardens, with ‘live’ singing and dancing featuring an original storyline, which we unfortunately missed. Lack of planning on my part, my bad.
There are many activities and rides for young children. I had hopes to take Lauren on the Madagascar river boat ride, the King Julien’s merry-go-round, Shrek 4D Adventures, Magic Potion ferris wheel, and watch the WaterWorld action packed live show.
However, when we took Lauren to the Madagascar river boat ride, she freaked out when an attendant told us that she can’t sit on our laps. Since then, she refused to go on anymore rides. Oh well.. I guess that will have to wait until both Lauren and Georgia are a little older. So we just went about strolling and eggs spotting.
I couldn’t resist getting into the egg-carriage but Lauren was too taken in by the Far Far Away Castle to be interested. So I took Georgia who is always happy to oblige.
“Woaahh.. CASTLE…”, was the exact words that came out from my 2-years-old’s mouth.
More photo taking ensued. All the mascots and characters are dressed up in Easter outfits; even the staff has bunny ears. So cute!
By the way, wonderful moments captured at this year’s Easter Eggstravaganza could win you some prizes too. Just upload your photos on Instagram, hashtag it with

Yes yes, I know Easter is NOT alllll about the eggs but hey, in a kid’s world, eggs are eggstraordinary!
For the non-rides dad, he was most impressed by the Sci-Fi City. Not to mention the area is half shaded, which makes it cooler and more comfortable for young children.
We spent a lot of time just going from one street show to another. I must say they are all very professional and entertaining. Both young and old were captivated.
I also found out that we are a ‘Sesame Street’ family. Not only did the girls’ faces lit up when we caught the “When I Grow Up” stage show TWICE, Nick knew all the character’s names and who’s whose best friend (?!) Lauren and Georgia were in Sesame heaven, judging by the looks on their face. Meanwhile, I was too happy to seek refuge and rest my feet in the air-conditioned theatre. The show plays 3 times daily – 12pm, 2:30pm and 5:40pm.
Highlight of the day has to be the Meet & Greet with Sesame Street characters. Lauren was given a faux gold chain by Elmo, which she proudly tells everyone who would listen.
Watch super-shy Lauren’s expression went from err-I-don’t-know-if-I-like-this to oh-no-it’s-really-Ernie to this-is-awesome!!
The little one had so much fun, she miraculously didn’t need a nap. Even Nick who doesn’t like crowd approves. So if you ask me now is it a good idea to bring young children to Universal Studios Singapore, I’d say “Totally!”.

Eggciting Easter at Resorts World Sentosa
Universal Studios Singapore’s Easter breakfast and egg hunt and the Underwater Easter bunny at the S.E.A. Aquarium will take place over the Easter weekend of 3 -5 April 2015,.
Taking place before Universal Studio Singapore opens, families and friends will start the day with a park-wide egg hunt, followed by a scrumptious breakfast buffet with fringe activities like egg-painting.
Over at S.E.A. Aquarium, the traditional egg hunt takes a dive below the oceans with guests hunting for eggs across the Aquarium’s habitats while learning about the wonders of marine life, before settling in for a breakfast buffet. The Aquarium’s award-winning Ocean Dreams sleepover programme will also be given an “egg-citing” twist with special Easter activities as well as educating participants on marine life and fun facts about the ocean and marine conservation. For fans of S.E.A. Aquarium’s unique seasonal dive appearances, the Underwater Easter Bunny will be back with daily appearances at the Shipwreck habitat and Open Ocean habitat.
