After my “Best Shoes For Pregnancy” post which I featured lots of flat shoes (for obvious reason) I had non-pregnant readers asking me how to wear flats. Hmm.. while I’m not your typical fashion blogger, I’ll dispose some tips I’ve learnt through many years of being dressed for fashion shows. Okay, I lied. Back in my days, we used to model EVERYTHING in heels. Even when we were wearing maternity clothing with a fake baby bump underneath, we were still rocking 4 inches heels.
However when models are off duty, we turn to flats. It is comfortable and highly versatile. And here are a few pointers to look out for to avoid looking too casual or frumpy, while wearing flats:

Right: Espadrilles & pointy ballet from Aldo Online |
Wear pointy / ballet flats / espadrilles with shorts / skirt or dress (any length, except maxi) – In fact, the shorter the skirt, the flatter your footwear should be. That’s my shoe-mantra. Otherwise, you might just look skanky. However, you are excused if you are petite and you wear heels all the time, then I would recommend you stop reading this post and head to my tumblr page dedicated to heels. Yes, I’m a closet high-heels lover who could only pine for them from afar. As a mom, my heels wearing days are a distant memory now. Anyway, ballet flats can be worn with everything. It is elegant chic for a polished casual look.

Sandals from Aldo online |
Wear sandals with maxi dress or skirt – The long length of the skirt makes you look lean and glamourous, and when your sandals peek out, the look is not too ‘done’. A pair of embellished sandals adds a fun, summery vibes to the look.
Sandals also look good if you want to dress down any outfit. Sandals for day, heels for night. Voila, same outfit, 2 looks.
Wear sneakers / espadrilles with shorts / skorts for that sporty, easy breezy look. They are so darn comfortable, you’ll feel good too.

Wear loafers / pointy / ballet flats with skinny jeans or capri pants, making sure the width of the pants is not too large or your feet will look disproportionally small. These styles elongate your leg and the best way to wear them is to show some ankles. Styles that cut off at the toes (toes showing) are younger and sexy looking too.
Above all, take risks. Have fun mix and matching your outfit with your shoes. If you have questions about shoes not mentioned here, please ask me in the comment section below!
