I just found out that August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month. As a mom blogger who writes about pregnancy and motherhood, I feel that I owe it to breastfeeding and dedicate a post to … well, breastfeeding.

The benefits of breastfeeding have been written to death in many website and blogpost. So I’ll save you the trouble to read through another similar post here. Instead, I have rounded up the most useful sites I visit whenever I had doubts on breastfeeding, along with some light-hearted photos and blog posts on this subject.

Here is a very sweet story told from a newborn’s perspective. In those early days when I almost gave up, I read this and happy to report that I am still breastfeeding Lauren at 10 months. The Leaky Boob is all about the topic. You can find real stories from moms around the world here.

Timeline of a BreastFed Baby is great post by The Alpha Parent. For a first time mother like myself, I didn’t know what to expect and how much my baby needs especially in those first few weeks. This lays out an average timeline for breastfeeding a baby from the very first day of birth to 2 years.

Kellymom is a blog written by a certified lactation consultant who is also mom to three lovely children. It covers everything from how to pump to clearing blocked milk duct.

I had a mastitis episode that saw my temperature soared up to 40 degree Celcius. I didn’t know what hit me until I came across this article. I thought only cows develop mastitis!

Ashley’s Green Life is another great blog I found useful and aspiring. Her post on pumping at work is an easy to follow guide to novice moms who intend to go back to work.

Something for dads

For those who prefers reading on hard copy, here are some books I recommend:

Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers
The Breastfeeding Mother’s Guide to Making More Milk: Foreword by Martha Sears, RN
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding

There you have it. These are the ones I managed to find on the world wide web, given I only had about 2 hours to blog until baby Lauren wake up from her nap. If you have any informative breastfeeding sites to share, please drop a note in the comment box below.

I can hear her now. Adios! Off to breastfeed my babe.
